Went a’fishing down at Cuckoo lake, Caught a fish so big the boat began to shake, You held onto the oars as we both stared in awe, Now Billy, I’ve really never seen such a fish before! As we stared into his eyes we began to feel quite small, In them an ancient depth incomprehensible, And as his scales did shimmer & shine colours never ‘for seen, I began to wonder what on Earth all this could really mean Staring, standing, falling, landing, gushing through the pores, I caught myself upon the thought it was myself I’d caught, And though I may be Harry, And folk might call you Bill, We’ve both lived a thousand lives & a thousand more we will, We’ve both lived a thousand lives & friends we remain still

Mountains high, clear blue sky, When I hear you call my name I’m sure to reply, Mountain stream, fresh & clean, Let me take a long draught & forget where I’ve been, And sit in conversation about time, With the moss & the rocks covered with the lichen, And learn about the order of life From the bees, who find the heather to their liking! My bare feet, love to greet The spongey, the soggy, boggy, mossy squelching peat, The Temple is alive, The Temple is alive! On all fours like a herbivore I’m grazing The Divine! To stretch out a lazy afternoon And let the natural flow of time pass without ticking And in evening welcome quiet crescent moon, By the warmth of the fire side, We'll sing the tide, Gentle, gentle, Can you feel the happening? Long ago, & yet untold, Expanding time upon a single point Be still, have peace, Can you sense the magic of being? Can you see where you are Amongst all things?

When I walked the mountain road deep into myself And passed along old memories stacked high on dusty shelves Oh the wonder as I felt myself a man, A man, a sage, a fool, a page, a magician I held the hand of the little boy as he wept upon the hill, I am the father, grandfather & yet the child still, Oh, passing through lives & Life it never ends! Butterflies from caterpillars munching leaves & stems, And all the growing pains of shedding of old skin, To new skin To rise out of the ashes once again, Just another reincarnation, Everything behind us stays within Behold the Sun from where you’ve come now on your skin, And feel the rain, it wash the pain that was hidden, Nothing lasts forever except Everything

Sun down at Cuckoo lake, The water is serene, I strip bare & swim up the golden glimmer, No-one else around, But the birds do a’twitter Their stories to each other From the day The summer air lingers warm, A tender breeze hushes peace, As the evening beckons the day Into its loving arms And I’m grateful, To feel part of this world Grateful Oh Life is wonderful, Oh Great Mystery Touches me, Mystical, magical world
5.
Time to go home, It’s time to go home, Collapse the tent & roll your bed into its roll, Let the fire die out, It’s time to get out, Lace up your boots & take the route that winds down Goldberry’s at home & how you’ve missed her, Waiting on her own for you to kiss her, And the garden needs a’tending, And there’s things that need a’mending By your two hands Goodbye Cuckoo, goodbye baby, Farewell everybody here, take care little Maisie, Goodbye mountain thyme, oh heather your sweet smell Shall take a place within my heart where it shall dwell To remind me of the beauty of the world You’ve settled all the matters in your heart, Ready to go back & play your part In the life you live, To give all that you can give Into the world

about

One fine spring day, old friends Harry & Bilbo set off into the mountains on a quest for visions, wonder & magic. They make their camp by a lake home to a cuckoo, & are befriended by a little maisie mouse who joins them around the camp fire by night. During the course of their stay, channels are opened to uncharted realms, & many discoveries are made; ancient herbivores, moss temples & meetings with 'the Great Mystery'. This is a record of that time - Songs from Cuckoo lake.
